1) Is this zine approved by Rusty Quill?
We have authorization from Rusty Quill to produce a charity fan-zine. This fan-zine is unofficial and not-for-profit.
"Unofficial" means that Rusty Quill has no oversight and has not requested oversight on the zine. Our work does not represent The Magnus Archives or Rusty Quill. We are not affiliated with any of the Rusty Quill team-members. Our depictions should not be taken as canonical, and they reserve every right to change their work or rescind their authorization at any time.
"Not-for-profit" means that we do not keep any of the money given to this zine. The gross funding from the zines is split into manufacturing of physical goods, shipping, and shipping supplies (eg, the product), and the remainder goes to the charity selected for each volume. All the creators represented in each volume are contributing their time and craft as a donation. Their compensation will be a copy of the finalized zine they contributed to.
2) Why are there different tiers of product?
We want to make this zine a fun experience accessible at different price points, and with different incentives for purchasing. Because of the cost of producing the physical books and having them shipped, the digital editions and the deluxe add-ons allow donors to help defray those costs and send more money to the charity. Our mantra is to add value.
3) Why is the deluxe edition limited to 50 copies?
Some of the add-ons were purchased in limited quantity. We also want to ensure we fully sell out of the zine copies we purchase so that we adhere to the spirit of Rusty Quill's authorization. The longer the volumes remain in the storefront, the more it appears like "merchandise" sold against the will of the license-holder.
4) Why don't you sell the add-ons separate of the zine?
The add-ons exist to help make the physical zine an attractive product and defray the up-front costs of manufacturing and shipping the physical volumes. They exist as an ephemera component to the physical zine, but not separately as unauthorized "merchandise". We are allowed to do the one, but the other is in violation of their grace.
5) I don't see my country listed in the shipping locations?
Because of the contents of the zine, we may not be able to ship to all locations. Shipping charges (and if there are duties attached) also vary from country to country. Please contact us at [email protected] and we'll try to work something out for you!
6) I really like the add-ons, is there another place to buy The Magnus Archives merchandise?
Luckily, a fellow Canadian artist, Greer Stothers, is collaborating with Rusty Quill for a limited risograph print and enamel pins. Check them out at rustyquill.storenvy.com, and be sure to visit the Rusty Quill website for updates on merch and more!
